Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances 2014 to be staged at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza this Sunday (with photos)

     Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances 2014 will be staged this Sunday (November 16) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. The series of entertainment programmes will include a costume parade, ethnic performances and traditional handicrafts workshops. Admission to all programmes is free.

     This year the event has a record 15 participating Asian regions including Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Thailand, with the participating groups comprising Asians residing in Hong Kong and Macau. Together with local and Macau performing groups, they will demonstrate the splendid diversity of Asian cultures.

     The programme will begin with a colourful costume parade by different performing groups in their ethnic costumes. To display the vibrancy of different Asian cultures, there will be traditional and ethnic performances of Asian regions, such as Indian classical and Bollywood dance, Korean percussion music ¡§Samul Nori¡¨, Indonesian mask dance, Pixiu dance and more. Members of the public can also enjoy a series of fringe activities, including regional arts and crafts displays, Sri Lankan food demonstrations, plus an array of workshops such as dance and batik, Thai fruit carving, henna painting and some very beautiful and colourful traditional handicrafts.

      Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances 2014, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, is also one of the programmes of the 2014 China-ASEAN Cultural Exchange Year.
