Youth Letter-Writing Competition Co-organised by Hongkong Post and Education Bureau
**********************************************************

Hongkong Post and Education Bureau co-organise a letter writing competition for young people in Hong Kong in support of the Universal Postal Union's 44th International Letter-Writing Competition. The theme of the competition is "Tell us about the world you want to grow up in".

Established in 1874, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) is a specialised agency of the United Nations which provides an important platform of co-operation for postal administrations worldwide. Hong Kong participates in the UPU as part of the Chinese delegation. Starting from 1971, the UPU holds the International Letter-Writing Competition annually. The objective of the competition is to promote young people's interest in letter writing as a means of expressing themselves and sharing their thoughts and experiences with others. In response to the UPU's 44th International Letter-Writing Competition, Hongkong Post and Education Bureau co-organise the Hong Kong contest. The Champion entry will compete in the national contest and stand a chance of winning international awards.

Residents of Hong Kong aged 9 to 15 are eligible to participate in the Hong Kong contest. Entries must be written in Chinese and in the form of a letter. The word limit is 1 000. In addition to the Champion, First runner-up and Second runner-up, there are ten Merit Awards. The closing date for entries is December 20, 2014.

The Champion entry will represent Hong Kong in the national contest. The selection committee of the national contest will shortlist 10 entries, out of which  the State Post Bureau will select the best entry to compete against the entries submitted by other UPU members in the 44th International Letter-Writing Competition organised by the UPU.

The Award for Best Participating Schools in the Hong Kong contest is divided into two categories, namely Secondary School Category and Primary School Category.  The top three schools with the highest number of submissions in each category will be awarded with prizes to recognise their efforts in encouraging their students to participate in the competition.

Posters and entry forms will be sent to all primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong.  Entry forms are now available at all post offices and may also be downloaded from Hongkong Post's website at www.hongkongpost.hk. For enquiries, please call 2921 6138.
