The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Housing Authority:

The Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA), in partnership again with green groups the Business Environment Council, the Conservancy Association and Friends of the Earth (HK), is holding the community environmental education programme "Green Delight in Estates" in all public rental housing estates in Hong Kong.

The programme has entered its eighth phase. Officiating at the launch ceremony of the new phase, the Permanent Secretary for Transport and Housing (Housing) and Director of Housing, Mr Stanley Ying, said today (November 7) that this programme has raised the environmental awareness and participation of residents, and nurtured a green atmosphere in the public housing estates.

In the past seven phases, the HA has collaborated with green groups to organise environmental activities in different themes, including green living carnivals, talks and workshops on waste reduction and low-carbon living, green visits, exchange of second-hand goods, quizzes and more. Around 15,000 residents and students have been trained as Green Estate Ambassadors to further promote green messages and activities to other residents with a view to building a green and healthy living environment for the community.

Continuing with last year's theme of "Reduction of Municipal Waste", the "Green Delight in Estates" Phase 8 programme will include a large-scale campaign on waste reduction as well as a range of in-depth environmental education activities in HA public rental housing estates this year. The activities aim at raising the awareness of residents on waste reduction and recycling as well as encouraging them to save resources in their daily living.

Other officiating guests today included the Chief Executive Officer of the Business Environment Council, Ms Agnes Li; the Chief Executive of the Conservancy Association, Mr Ken So; and the Head of Community Engagement and Partnership of Friends of the Earth (HK), Mr Edwin Lau.
