"In-Situ!" at Oi! invites public participation (with photos)
************************************************************

An art project titled "In-Situ!" was launched today (November 7) and will run at Oi! until January 25. The project, which involves different community groups and artists working on site, invites the public to experience various ordinary but interesting routines such as handcrafting, planting, letter writing and story sharing, to inject art and creativity into daily life.

"In-Situ!" is co-organised by Oi! and the School of Everyday Life with participating groups including BookWalker, HK Potato, Hong Kong Federation of Women's Centres, Hokee, Little Green Feet, Mapopo Community Farm, MUDwork, Oxfam Hong Kong, Sangwoodgoon, Spicy Fish Cultural Production and Fleurs des Lettres.

During the period the project is being held, Oi! will be transformed and empowered as a place in which the once thriving tools of everyday life in North Point are reinstated. The art space is open to the public, where they will be able to chat with artists, explore traces of different communities and re-examine their own lives from an artistic perspective.

A clothing workshop will be set up by sewing master Hokee, Core Lo and the Community Mamas of the Hong Kong Federation of Women's Centres, who will work together to create handcrafted creations. Artist Tsang Tak-ping will show visitors how to create a visual diary using sketches and collages. Oxfam Hong Kong, HK Potato and artists will seek to raise public awareness of local and global food sourcing and provisioning issues through art creations and potato planting. Spicy Fish Cultural Production will make use of books that are going to be destroyed and turn them into works of art.

In addition, Little Green Feet and art organisation MUDwork have invited 40 local residents to introduce picture books that show their life stories and impressions of Hong Kong. A group of young artists will collect stories and memories from visitors, then use the senses to regenerate their stories. To enhance experiences and knowledge sharing, bookcrossing and other sharing activities will be organised in-situ.

Oi! is located at 12 Oil Street, North Point, Hong Kong. For details, please visit the Oi!'s website at www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/Museum/APO/zh_TW/web/apo/oyip_in-situ.html or call 2512 3000.
