Eleven nominations for Labour Advisory Board Election of Employee Representatives

     The Labour Department received 11 valid nominations of candidates from employee unions registered under the Trade Unions Ordinance during the nomination period from October 3 to 27, 2014 for the election of five employee representatives to the Labour Advisory Board (LAB) for the next two-year term starting in January 2015. The election will be held on November 29 (Saturday) at Mei Foo Community Hall, 1/F, Mei Foo Government Complex.

     The candidates, listed in the order of nominations received by the Labour Department, are:

* Ms Wong Siu-han

The Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions

* Mr Chau Siu-chung
Treasurer,
The Federation of Hong Kong & Kowloon Labour Unions

* Mr Chung Kwok-sing
Chairman,
Hong Kong Civil Servants General Union

* Mr Lam Yau
Chairman,
Hong Kong Jingjin Practitioner General Union

* Ms Shum Ming-mei
Executive Committee member,
Hong Kong Jingjin Practitioner General Union

* Ms Chau Ka-yee
Chairman,
Hong Kong Jingjin Trainers and Qualification Assessors General Union

* Ms Wu Siu-lan
Executive Committee member,
Hong Kong Jingjin Trainers and Qualification Assessors General Union

* Mr Cheung Siu-wing
Chairman,
Hong Kong Leisure Services Staff General Union

     A total of 412 employee unions registered as electors have appointed authorised representatives to vote in the election.

     "Electors that have appointed authorised representatives will soon be informed in writing of the candidate list and proceedings on the election day in detail. Authorised representatives may cast their votes at the polling station at Mei Foo Community Hall, 1/F, Mei Foo Government Complex, 33 Mei Lai Road, Sham Shui Po between 11am and 4pm on the election day of November 29," a spokesperson for the department said.

     A representative of the Registry of Trade Unions and the candidates will be present on the election day to supervise the counting of votes. The Assistant Commissioner for Labour, Ms Mabel Li, will act as Returning Officer.

     The lists of candidates and electors as well as the election rules and procedures are available at the website of the Labour Department (www.labour.gov.hk/eng/news/content.htm). Enquiries on matters relating to the election can be made at 2852 4024.

     The LAB is a tripartite consultative body comprising representatives of employees and employers to advise the Commissioner for Labour on labour matters. During their term of office, members of the LAB will also serve on the Standard Working Hours Committee as ex-officio members by virtue of their membership of the LAB.
