Public transport services update from time to time in view of traffic situation
***********************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) today (November 2) said that traffic situation on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon continues to be unstable due to protests. The TD has frequently reminded members of the public and would like to repeat that, if they are to go to work or school, they should pay special attention to the traffic condition of working days, and plan their journey in advance, start their journey earlier and allow more time for travelling.

Commuters should stay alert to the updates on public transport information provided by the TD and bus companies in view of the traffic situation. The TD and bus companies have recently reviewed the road situation and resumed the original routing of five bus services travelling via Mong Kok since yesterday. The five bus routes, which used to be affected by the protest activities in Mong Kok, mainly provide services between Mong Kok and Tuen Mun, Tsing Yi, Tung Chung and so on. With the resumption of their original routing, the bus services make it more convenient for the passengers travelling between Kowloon and New Territories.

As affected by the "occupy movement", some events have to be relocated to districts where protest activities are not being held. The annual "Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival" has changed its venue from the New Central Harbourfront to the open space outside Kai Tak Cruise Terminal this year. Since today is the last day of the event, it is expected that a large number of people will grasp this last chance to take part in the event. The TD anticipated that the traffic in the vicinity of Kai Tak Cruise Terminal will still be congested and called on members of the public to take the free shuttle bus services provided by the event organiser, including a free special circular bus service of KMB Route No. 215R plying between Kai Tak Cruise Terminal and Lam Tin MTR Station, as well as another two free shuttle bus services from Kowloon Tong and Tsim Sha Tsui East to Kai Tak Cruise Terminal respectively.

Due to limited parking space and to avoid driving after drinking, participants of the festival should not drive to the venue. The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate traffic control measures, including setting up buffer zones to control traffic flow whenever necessary. Motorists and the public are advised to pay attention to the latest traffic news and take heed of the instructions from the police officers at the scene.

In addition, special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in So Kon Po and Causeway Bay for a football match to be held at the Hong Kong Stadium tonight. The TD anticipated that the traffic in the vicinity of So Kon Po and Causeway Bay will be congested. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. Members of the public planning to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport as far as possible. Actual implementation of the traffic arrangements will be made depending on traffic and crowd conditions in the area.

Regarding public transport services, since today is a public holiday, less bus routes are affected than on a working day. Nonetheless, a total of 138 bus routes are affected today with eight bus routes suspended and 130 bus routes diverted. A total of 20 green minibus routes travelling via Harcourt Road, Nathan Road and Argyle Street are still diverted or suspended or with service adjusted. Currently, the tram service between Percival Street and Paterson Street is still suspended. The MTR Corporation Limited continues to increase services for all urban lines to cope with passenger demand.

The TD's Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre will continue to monitor the road traffic situation and public transport services. For details of road closure, traffic diversion, suspension and route diversion of green minibus services, please refer to the TD's website (www.td.gov.hk). Regarding temporary traffic arrangements for bus routes, please refer to the following bus companies' websites for details:

As there will be updates on bus services from time to time due to traffic changes, members of the public are advised to pay attention to the latest service arrangements announced by bus companies before starting their journeys.
