Music trios from Austria and Italy to perform in outdoor concert this weekend (with photos)
*********************************************************

Two music groups from Austria and Italy will perform boundary-crossing compositions in the outdoor concert "Music Beyond Borders" this weekend (November 1 and 2). The concert is being held at 2.30pm each day at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza and admission is free.

The David Helbock Trio from Austria comprises David Helbock (composer, piano), Raphael Preuschl (bass ukulele) and Herbert Pirker (drums). David Helbock won the Outstanding Artist Award in Austria in 2011 and arranges innovative and creative music that thrills audiences. During the concert, the trio will play unrestrained soundscapes and groovy beats that come together with a very distinct group of instruments such as the ukulele to open up an unknown musical universe.

Also playing in the concert is Gavino Murgia Mediterranean Trio from Italy. Along with playing the saxophone, Gavino Murgia will perform on the launeddas, a polyphonic native woodwind instrument of Sardinia that produces some of the most primary and resonant sounds in European music. He will be joined by guitarist Marcello Peghin and drummer Pietro Iodice to perform modern and archaic sounds that explore Sardinia's deep musical traditions.

"Music Beyond Borders" is jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Austrian Consulate General Hong Kong, the Consulate General of Italy in Hong Kong and the Italian Cultural Institute in association with Radio Television Hong Kong Radio 4. It is also an outdoor programme in support of the New Vision Arts Festival.
