Over 200 orchestras and bands to participate in Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows

     Over 200 orchestras and bands from primary and secondary schools will compete with their musical skills and share their performing experience in the 2014 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department from November 11 to December 11 in various districts.

     Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows, which aims to provide a music exchange opportunity for young local musicians, has attracted enthusiastic participation from schools each year. The programme this year includes contests for symphony orchestras, string orchestras, Chinese orchestras and symphonic bands.

     Forty-three orchestras will take part in the Symphony Orchestra Contest with a total of four sessions to be held at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall on November 11 and 12.

     Fifty-four orchestras will participate in the String Orchestra Contest with a total of four sessions to be held at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong City Hall on November 25 and 26.

     Seventy-four orchestras will take part in the five classes of the Chinese Orchestra Contest at the Auditorium of Tuen Mun Town Hall from December 9 to 11.

     Eighty-two bands will compete in the six classes of the Symphonic Band Contest at the Arena of the Queen Elizabeth Stadium from December 2 to 5. The Gold Award winners of each class will compete for Grand Champion titles in the primary and secondary school categories at the Winners' Final on December 6. Celebrated French trombonist Jean Raffard will perform with the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band in the Final.

     Tickets for the Symphony Orchestra and String Orchestra Contests are now available at URBTIX while those for the Symphonic Band and Chinese Orchestra Contests will be available from November 2 and 9 onwards respectively. Tickets for each contest are priced at $40. Half-price concessions are available for full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
