The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority:

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) held its second roving exhibition entitled "HKMA Fun Day: Be a Smart Bank Consumer" at Sunshine City Plaza, Ma On Shan on October 25 and 26 (Saturday and Sunday) to promote smart and responsible use of banking services to the public.

Organised jointly with the Commercial Radio, the exhibition featured a stage performance on Saturday afternoon, with the Executive Director (Banking Conduct) of the HKMA, Ms Carmen Chu, and renowned artiste Ms Dodo Cheng officiating at the opening ceremony. Ms Cheng, who starred in the HKMA's consumer education videos, also shared smart tips on using banking services with the audience.

The consumer education videos promote responsible credit card spending and security awareness of using self-banking services such as ATMs, internet and mobile banking. Through the humorous videos, bank consumers are reminded not to overspend with credit card and avoid repaying minimum amount only. When using self-banking services, they should stay alert and take proper security measures.

With Mr Sammy Leung and Ms Kitty Yuen as MCs, the stage performance disseminated the above educational messages in a lively and interactive manner. Apart from singing, singers Mr Jay Fung, Ms AGA Kong and C AllStar also played games with the audience to bring out the smart tips.

The exhibition also included information panels, game booths, an audio kiosk and photo booths with interesting illustrations, while four sessions of interactive games were held on stage on Sunday. The event was well received by the public.

This community activity is one of the initiatives under the HKMA's Consumer Education Programme, which aims to spread out educational messages via radio broadcasting, print publicity, public education seminars, as well as promoting the recent consumer education videos, which are being telecast and launched on different media platforms. Members of the public can view the videos and various smart tips on the HKMA website (www.hkma.gov.hk).
