The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, today (October 27) visited the production base of a Hong Kong health products group in Xinhui, Guangdong.
Upon arrival in the morning, Mr So toured the different production sites of the company, including the product testing centre and laboratory, to understand its operation and research and development endeavours.
Mr So learned that the company, which is headquartered in Hong Kong, had established two operation bases on the Mainland to produce high-quality Chinese herbal health products. It has been working closely with various academic and science institutions on the Mainland in its research and technological advancement efforts.
During the visit, Mr So also met with the management of the company to exchange views on tapping the business opportunities provided by the Mainland for Hong Kong enterprises.
"We have been actively assisting Hong Kong enterprises in capturing the opportunities arising from the Mainland's policies of expanding domestic demand and encouraging upgrading and restructuring of enterprises. This includes helping our enterprises to develop their brands and upgrade their operations through various funding schemes," Mr So said.
"Hong Kong is strategically located at the doorstep of the Mainland and Guangdong is our closest neighbour. I believe there is room for further and deeper co-operation between Hong Kong and the province with a view to attaining win-win growth," he added.
Mr So returns to Hong Kong this afternoon.
