New Vision Arts Festival to present pioneering mini-festival "ArtSnap" (with photos)
************************************************************

The Kwai Tsing Theatre will be transformed into an energising open arts arena filled with cross-disciplinary art happenings in "ArtSnap" for three consecutive days from October 31 to November 2. The event will feature performances at the Black Box Theatre and boundary-breaking happenings at multiple locations in the theatre and its vicinity.

"ArtSnap", a mini-festival within a festival, is one of the programmes of the New Vision Arts Festival (NVAF). "ArtSnap" is co-curated with British art collective Forest Fringe, which has linked up with local artists to utilise every corner of the theatre building as well as surrounding areas.

Performances at the Black Box Theatre will include "ROMCOM" by Ant Hampton and Glen Neath (UK), "Watch Me Fall" by Action Hero (UK), "She Who Encountered Kafka X The New Rendezvous with Nalan" by Alice Theatre Laboratory and "Kafka Fragments" by Alice Theatre Laboratory and the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble.

Two local performers act out the story of a relationship in Cantonese in "ROMCOM" under a set of instructions delivered by headphones while on stage. With different artists for every show, every pair will deliver their own interpretation, making each show unique within the same production setting and reflecting the point that there are no second takes in life. The local performers are Pichead Amornsomboon, Grace Wu, Au-Yeung Chun, Karrie Tan, Lau Shau-ching, Anna Ieong, Yau Ting-fai and Wong Wai-chi.

"Watch Me Fall", a satirical show featuring daredevil stunts performed on a bicycle and a DIY runway, questions the obsession of pushing the body to its limits.

"She Who Encountered Kafka X The New Rendezvous with Nalan" explores Czech author Franz Kafka's world through improvisation, physical movement, spoken word, chanting and unconventional performance spaces in the theatre, while the audience can experience Qing dynasty poet Nalan Xingde's literary world through a synthesis of dramatic and poetic arts. "Kafka Fragments" will present, in a beautifully lit and surreal show, minimalist music pieces by Hungarian composer György Kurtág that were inspired by the letters, diaries and notebooks of Kafka.

Apart from the ticketed performances at the Black Box Theatre, a range of free programmes will also take place in the Foyer, Plaza and surrounding areas, displaying the spirit of "art without borders". These will include "Hold My Hand, and We're Halfway There" by Brian Lobel (UK), "Walking: Holding" by Rosana Cade (UK) and "Video Soundscape I - Kwai Tsing" by the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, and the installations "Remote Collaboration" by Tim Etchells (UK) and "A Soundmap in Two Parts" by Andy Field.

"1-Day Pass for Saturday" and "1-Day Pass for Sunday" priced at $350 each are available for the shows at the Black Box Theatre, giving the audience access to all shows on the specified day, while individual tickets priced at $150 are also available.

Tickets are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 and above, people with disabilities and their minders, and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Other booking discounts of up to 20 per cent are available for full-price tickets of the NVAF performing arts programmes.

The NVAF, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, is running from October 16 to November 16 and showcasing an array of innovative and outstanding performances that cross cultural and disciplinary borders. Programme brochures are available at URBTIX outlets or at the festival website www.newvisionfestival.gov.hk.
