Revised Code of Practice for Safety and Health at Work with Asbestos issued today
************************************************************

The Labour Department (LD) today (October 24) issued a revised version of the Code of Practice for Safety and Health at Work with Asbestos (CoP).

A spokesperson for the LD said, "A notice has been published in the Gazette today on the issue of the revised CoP following the enactment of the Air Pollution Control (Amendment) Ordinance 2014 and the consequential amendments to the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Asbestos) Regulation (the amended Regulation) on April 4, 2014."

The spokesperson added, "The amended Regulation bans (a) asbestos spraying; (b) the use of asbestos-containing insulations; and (c) works with amphibole and chrysotile asbestos, except asbestos removal or disposal works. To align the CoP with the amended Regulation, those provisions of CoP which are no longer applicable have been deleted. The CoP has been revised following consultations with major affected stakeholders."

The revised CoP can be obtained free of charge from the Occupational Safety and Health Branch Offices of the LD and downloaded from the department's website (www.labour.gov.hk/eng/public/content2_8b.htm). Enquiries about the CoP can be made at 2559 2297.
