Young choreographer Cherry Leung to stage "Beautiful Decay" in November
************************************************************

Promising Hong Kong choreographer Cherry Leung will stage her latest work, "Beautiful Decay", in November.

Leung always draws her creative inspiration from the physical manifestations of life around us. The underlying theme for "Beautiful Decay" is time. Through the dancers' interpretation of temporal elements and youth, the choreography seeks to reflect the passage of time and embrace the laws of life while introducing a sense of beautiful decay to the audience.

Flowers are Leung's source of inspiration for this production. When flowers are in full bloom, they are beautiful. After their freshness is gone, people throw the flowers away before witnessing their decay, not understanding that the decay forms part of the integral cycle of the flowers' life. It is as if people are refusing to accept their own ageing. The prime of life may be gone, Leung believes, but by witnessing or experiencing the fading of life's colours first-hand, people will be able to see new colours emerging, thus revealing another kind of beauty that is still valuable and unique.

Choreographed by Leung, the production is performed by Lim Wei-wei, Tsui Yik-chit, Wong Choi-si, Chan Ka-ching, Lam Ka-wing and Liao Yue-min.

Cherry Leung graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) in 2008, majoring in contemporary dance and choreography. She has been awarded scholarships by various organisations including Spring Time Stage Productions, Hang Seng Bank, Hong Kong Disney and Jackie Chan Charitable Scholarships (2005 and 2008). She also participated in HKAPA performance tours to London, Southampton, Berlin, Brussels and Guangzhou. As a dedicated choreographer, her works have been presented at various festivals and she acted as the choreographer for the Actors' Family musical "A Beautiful Day".

"Beautiful Decay" is one of the programmes in the "New Force in Motion" series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be staged at 8pm on November 14 and 15 (Friday and Saturday) and 3pm on November 15 and 16 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Black Box Theatre of the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre.
