************************************************************

Lung Yat Community Hall, situated at 106 Yip Wong Road, Tuen Mun, was officially opened today (October 17). As the 10th community hall/centre in the district, the new hall provides an additional venue for residents to organise a variety of activities.

The well designed community hall is equipped with a multi-purpose hall with high quality facilities including a stage, a lighting system, audio-visual equipment and a full-height moveable partition with sound insulation. Vertical wall mirrors and dancing bars have been installed in the conference room to turn it into a multi-purpose function room when needed. With these facilities, the community hall can be more flexibly used to support cultural and entertainment activities.

Officiating at the opening ceremony, the Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan, said that Tuen Mun has developed into a community with population of over half a million since the development of Tuen Mun new town by the Government in the 1970s. The Home Affairs Department has been actively planning to build more community halls in the district in order to provide more venues for residents to organise activities, making Tuen Mun a better home, she added.

She also appealed to the District Council and other departments for their support for the planned Siu Lun Community Hall in Tuen Mun Area 14, which is pending funding approval from the Legislative Council.

Other officiating guests included the Vice Chairman of Tuen Mun District Council (TMDC), Mr Leung Kin-man; District Officer (Tuen Mun), Mr David Lau; and the Vice Chairman of the District Facilities Management Committee of TMDC, Ms Lung Shui-hing.

Yan Chai Hospital Law Chan Chor Si Primary School, the primary school section champion of the 18 Districts Cheering Team Competition, demonstrated cheerleading at the ceremony. Chung Sing Benevolent Society Mrs Aw Boon Haw Secondary School and Islamic Primary School also performed lion dance and ethnic dance respectively.

The Lung Yat Community Hall, built by the Housing Department, is managed by the Tuen Mun District Office. It has already been opened for public's use since July.

In addition to the newly opened Lung Yat Community Hall, the other nine community halls/centres in Tuen Mun District are On Ting/Yau Oi Community Centre, Butterfly Bay Community Centre, Leung King Community Centre, Kin Sang Community Hall, Shan King Community Hall, Tai Hing Community Hall, Tuen Mun Town Centre Community Hall, Tseng Choi Street Community Hall and Wu Shan Road Community Hall.
