********************************************************

The Government has accepted the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee and approved from the Disaster Relief Fund two grants totalling $4.803 million to two agencies for providing relief to flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir, India.

Announcing the grants today (October 15), a government spokesman said that the Committee hoped the two grants dedicated for providing relief to the flood victims in India - one of $2.889 million to CEDAR Fund and one of $1.914 million to Save the Children Hong Kong - would facilitate the provision of timely relief to the victims and help them restore their normal life.

"To ensure that the money would be used for the designated purposes, the relief agencies would be asked to submit evaluation reports and audited accounts on the use of the grants after the relief projects have been completed," the spokesman said.
