Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Western District today (October 14) in which a 71-year-old man died.
About 6.23pm, a private car driven by a 44-year-old man was travelling along Des Voeux Road West eastbound. When approaching near Wilmer Street, it reportedly knocked down the 71-year-old man who was crossing the road.
Sustaining serious head injuries, the man was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital in unconscious state where he was certified dead at 6.56pm.
The driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for enquiries.
Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island are underway.
