Concert to commemorate late master musician Lim Kek-han

     The China Philharmonic Orchestra (Hong Kong) will give a concert in November to commemorate its late founder and music director Lim Kek-han.

     Under the batons of Terry Leung and Ng Ka-ming, the orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture" and "1812 Overture". The concert will also feature violinist Vincent Liauw and sopranos Evelyn Chiu and Sandy Lau, performing Mendelssohn's "Violin Concerto in E minor", the Indonesian folk songs "My Lovely Baby" and "Bengawan Solo", and three Chinese songs - "Ode to Corals", "In Praise of the Red Plum Blossoms" and "My Motherland".

     The China Philharmonic Orchestra (Hong Kong) was formerly named the Lim Kek-han Philharmonic Orchestra and was founded by Lim Kek-han in 1977. The orchestra holds a number of concerts every year and performs different kinds of music to audiences. Famous soloists and guest conductors are also invited from the Mainland and overseas to perform with the orchestra. The orchestra is committed to introducing Chinese music rearranged in a modern style to audiences and has held numerous Chinese music concerts.

     Terry Leung and Ng Ka-ming studied violin performance with the late Lim Kek-han. Leung has been the concertmaster of the China Philharmonic Orchestra (Hong Kong) and also appeared as guest conductor and violin soloist to perform with the orchestra. Ng is currently Senior Music Officer (String) of the Music Office. Ng has led the Music Office's orchestras to perform in Singapore, Malaysia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Beijing and Shanghai.

     "Lim Kek-han Commemoration Concert" by the China Philharmonic Orchestra (Hong Kong) is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be staged at 8pm on November 23 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets priced at $100, $120 and $140 are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20 per cent is offered for group booking packages.
