Government urges illegal occupiers to end their movements
*********************************************************

The Government today (October 13) urged people gathering illegally on the roads to end their occupy movements in various locations on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon as soon as possible in order not to prolong the serious repercussions caused to people's daily lives and work.

Should the groups or people concerned wish to gather at suitable places within a certain time frame, the Government recommends that bigger venues where congregations would not cause obstruction to traffic and normal life be used. Examples are Tamar Park, the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section) and the Central Lawn of Victoria Park and MacPherson Playground in Mong Kok. Relevant departments will assist as appropriate.

As to the request by some "Occupy Central" advocates and related organisations to open the East Wing Forecourt of the Central Government Offices (CGO), a Government spokesman said that the Forecourt is part of the CGO. It is mainly used as a vehicular access and pick-up/drop-off area. Large congregations there will seriously affect the operation of the CGO and pose safety risks to the compound and its nearby areas. Therefore, the Government will not consider such a request. The East Wing Forecourt will continue to be used for public meetings and processions during specified hours in accordance with established procedures.
