Chief Executive's Office responds to statement by press unions
********************************************************

The Chief Executive's Office has the following response to a statement issued by the Hong Kong Journalists Association, Next Media Union, RTHK Programme Staff Union and Ming Pao Staff Association (press unions) today (October 12) on the television interview given by the Chief Executive:

"Since the start of the 'Occupy Central' movement, the Chief Executive and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government officials, having regard to practical needs, have disseminated messages and responses on the handling of the movement through various channels, including press conferences, media standups, press releases, video statements and media interviews.

"It is in fact a standing practice for the Chief Executive and the HKSAR Government officials to conduct interviews with individual media on various issues. The accusations made by the press unions that the Chief Executive gave selective interview to avoid being questioned by the media are untrue and unfounded."
