*********************************************************

The Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) today (October 10) launched InnoTech Month 2014, which involves a range of activities to promote a culture of innovation and technology. This year marks the 10th anniversary of InnoTech Month.

Organised by the ITC with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation as campaign partners, InnoTech Month 2014 runs from today to December 6 and features an array of programmes including roadshows, a large-scale carnival, exhibitions, workshops, long-distance running, seminars and industry conferences. The event aims to offer members of the public an opportunity to see Hong Kong's achievements in innovation and technology, and to provide a communication platform for the industry to facilitate its long-term development.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Mr Johann Wong, said, "The ITC is committed to promoting a culture of innovation and technology (I&T) in Hong Kong. We encourage members of the public to gain first-hand experience of I&T achievements, so as to better understand the importance of science and technology development in enhancing Hong Kong's competitiveness."

Mr Wong added, "By organising a wide variety of science education and publicity programmes, the ITC hopes to arouse young people's interest in I&T and nurture more technology talents."

Accompanying the launch of this year's InnoTech Month, a three-day roadshow is being held starting today at Olympian City 2, at which winning entries of the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2014 and other inventions are on display, in conjunction with a series of workshops. Another roadshow will be held at Citywalk on November 28 to 30.

The InnoCarnival, which is the highlight of InnoTech Month, will be staged at Hong Kong Science Park on November 1 to 9. The nine-day event will have three main themes, namely Intelligent Living, Quality Living and Green Living. More than 60 booths or pavilions will be set up by local universities, research and development institutions and enterprises to showcase their latest research achievements.

Members of the public are invited to attend. Admission to the roadshows and the InnoCarnival is free of charge.
