************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

The Legislative Council Panel on Development conducted a visit today (October 7) to the proposed site for the reprovisioning of the Harcourt Road fresh water pumping station near the Central Fire Station on Cotton Tree Drive.

The purpose of the visit is to understand the justifications for relocating the Pumping Station to the site and the measures that the Administration would take to minimise the impact of the reprovisioning works on the trees and a section of an old stone wall within the proposed site.

During the visit, Panel members received a briefing by representatives of the Water Supplies Department on the scope of the reprovisioning project and the measures for heritage preservation and tree protection. They then visited the old stone wall and a teak tree, which is a tree in the Register of Old and Valuable Trees, adjacent to the site.

Members participating in the visit included Deputy Chairman of Panel on Development, Mr Tony Tse, Mr Chan Chi-chuen, Dr Kenneth Chan and Dr Lo Wai-kwok.
