Appointment of Lingnan University Council Chairman

     The Government today (October 3) announced that the Chief Executive had appointed Mr Rex Auyeung as Chairman of the Council of Lingnan University (LU) with effect from October 22, 2014 to October 21, 2017.

     The Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng hak-kim, welcomed Mr Auyeung¡¦s appointment.

     "Mr Auyeung is devoted to public service and has in particular rendered significant contributions to the higher education sector. Mr Auyeung was a member of the Council of City University of Hong Kong, and has been  Deputy Chairman of the LU Council since 2013. He is widely recognised for his extensive experience in the governance and development of higher education institutions. I am confident that LU will continue to scale new heights with Mr Auyeung at the helm," Mr Ng said.

     Mr Ng also paid tribute to Mr Bernard Chan, the outgoing Chairman of LU Council.

     "Over the past six years, Mr Chan has made tremendous contributions to the continuing development of LU.  Under his leadership, LU has gone from strength to strength in providing students with an education distinguished by the best liberal arts tradition from both East and West, inspiring innovation as well as taking a whole-person approach to education. During his tenure, various campus developments and student hostel projects were successfully implemented, thereby fulfilling the university¡¦s aspiration of providing a distinctive liberal arts education for students in an all-encompassing and fully residential campus environment.  The university has also made great strides in its internationalisation efforts and the development of various niche areas, receiving wide recognition for its achievements," he said.
