Contractors fined for violation of safety rules

Hip Hing Construction Company Limited and Excel Win Engineering Limited were fined $32,000 and $56,000 respectively at Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (September 30) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on November 16 last year in Yuen Long. A worker fell to his death from 2/F onto the ground when part of a bamboo scaffold on which he was working suddenly broke.
