Police appeal to public to express views in peaceful and rational manner
*********************************************************

As a large number of protestors are currently (September 28) gathering at Harcourt Road and Connaught Road Central, and thus blocking the roads, causing chaos and paralysing east and west bound traffic in that area, Police appeal to the public and motorists not to travel to the above area.

The acts of these people have seriously undermined public order and public safety. They blocked the major thoroughfares deliberately, charged the Police cordon line and shoved police officers onto the ground. Although Police have given repeated advice and warnings, including displaying warning banners, and used OC Foam to stop such acts which showed disregard for public safety and public order, the participants refused to comply. Police strongly condemned such acts which endangered the safety of the participants themselves and the safety of other people as well. According to preliminary information, six Police officers were injured.

Police reiterate that any acts endangering public order and public safety will not be tolerated. The Hong Kong community regard that we should express our views in a rational and peaceful manner.
