Police strongly condemn violent acts by protesters

     Regarding the public meeting being held outside the Central Government Office (CGO) (September 27), some of the protestors forced their way into the CGO and the Legislative Council (LegCo) Complex earlier by violent means, and they therefore are participating in an unlawful assembly.

     The violent acts of the protesters had led to injuries of four police officers and 11 CGO staff and security guards. One of the police officers was poked by a protester with an umbrella, causing a 10cm long wound. Police strongly condemned the violent acts of the protesters.

     Police urge the participants to adhere to the appeals of Police and leave the scene in a peaceful and orderly manner as soon as possible.

     Police reiterate we respect the public's freedoms of expression, speech and assembly. Members of the public should comply with the laws of Hong Kong and maintain social order when expressing their views.

     In addition, Police had arrested 13 people so far, including 12 men and one woman, aged between 16 and 35, for forcible entry into government premises, disorderly conduct in public place, assaulting police officer, obstructing police officers and common assault.
