LegCo delegation visits Parliament of Finland (with photos)

     The delegation of the Legislative Council (LegCo) began its visit in Finland yesterday (September 15) to better understand the support provided to Members of the Finnish Parliament, education system and the development of innovation and technology industry of the country.

     In the morning, the delegation visited Pelimanni Primary School in Helsinki to learn about the education system in Finland, in particular the strategies of achieving high quality education and ensuring teaching quality without the need of standardised tests and school inspection system.

     The delegation then visited the Eduskunta, Parliament of Finland, and received a briefing by the Administrative Director of the Eduskunta, Mr Pertti Rauhio on the support provided to members of the Finnish Parliament. The delegation also attended a lunch hosted by the Secretary General of the Eduskunta, Mr Seppo Tiitinen.

     In the afternoon, the delegation met with the Deputy Director General of the Department for the Americas and Asia of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Ms Eija Rotinen to exchange views on the political landscape in Finland.

     The delegation also attended a meeting with the Executive Director of Tekes, Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation, Ms Ulla Hiekkanen-Mäkelä, and learnt about the roles of the Finnish Innovation Fund in assisting the growth of the innovation and technology industry in Finland.

     The delegation will continue its visit in Finland today (September 16) and will meet with the Vice-Speaker of the Eduskunta and representatives of the Constitutional Law Committee and the Committee for the Future of the Eduskunta.
