Open fire case in Sheung Shui

     Police are investigating an open fire case in which a police constable sustained a shot wound, a sergeant, another police constable and a medical staff were injured in Sheung Shui this afternoon (September 15).

     At about 11.02 am, Police received a report that a man was injured on San Wan Road, Sheung Shui. Police officers attended the scene and located the man who sustained injury to his left wrist. He was then conveyed to North District Hospital for medical treatment.

     After arriving at the hospital and further enquiries, police officers found the man did not carry any identity document and arrested him for illegal immigration around noon.

     The man later became emotional and attempted to snatch a revolver from a male police constable. The police constable then struggled with the man in an attempt to stop him and they both fell down on the floor. In the course of the incident, six gunshots were heard. A sergeant used OC foam. The man was subdued later.

     He was arrested for illegal immigration, assaulting police officer and wounding (shooting with intent). He is now admitted at Castle Peak Hospital for examination and will be detained overnight for investigation.

     The male police constable sustained a shot wound to his right forearm, the male sergeant sustained bite injury to his left arm while another male police constable and a female medical staff, who assisted in subduing the man, twisted his right hand and sustained abrasion to her left leg respectively.  They all received treatment at North District Hospital.

     The wounded police officer has undergone operation and is now in stable condition, whereas the rest of the injured persons were discharged after medical treatment.

     Investigations by the Regional Crime Unit of New Territories North are under way.
