********************************************************

The Information Services Department (ISD) today (September 15) launched iPad and Android tablet application versions for the latest yearbook "Hong Kong 2013".

The apps can be downloaded free of charge from the App Store or Google Play by searching for "Hong Kong Yearbook" or via the following links:
itunes.apple.com/hk/app/hong-kong-yearbook-xiang-gang/id740435888?mt=8 (iPad version); and
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hk.gov.isd.hkyb (Android tablet version).

"We have again tried to enhance the appeal of the mobile app, which was first launched in 2011," an Information Services Department spokesman said.

"This year, we have introduced a bookshelf framework to store multiple yearbooks. This will allow both "Hong Kong 2013" and "Hong Kong 2012" to be available on the same app."

"Hong Kong 2013" provides an in-depth account of government policy and activities and an overview of Hong Kong's development during 2013.

The yearbook contains a wealth of facts and figures, including over 40 tables of statistics and an endpaper map showing Hong Kong's climate.

The yearbook's 21 chapters cover subjects ranging from Hong Kong's constitution and legal system, the economy, commerce and industry, employment, education, health and social welfare to the environment, recreation, sports and the arts.

"Hong Kong 2013" features more than 110 photographs in 12 photo sections on events, people and places in Hong Kong, including sections on the harbour, rail transport then and now, long-distance hiking trails, behind the scenes at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, birds, exhibitions and festivals and celebrations.

The apps include online video clips that supplement the pictorial sections.

The apps are available in Traditional Chinese and English.

Apart from being accessible through the App Store and Google Play, the apps can be downloaded via the ISD website, www.isd.gov.hk, or the government yearbook website, www.yearbook.gov.hk, connecting to the App Store and Google Play.
