Vanessa Cheung and Ivanhoe Lam to host modern and contemporary dance appreciation lectures

     Hosted by Vanessa Cheung and Ivanhoe Lam and presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), lectures on the appreciation of modern and contemporary dance will be held in September and October. The lectures will be conducted in Cantonese.

     Vanessa Cheung is a lecturer at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), where she is responsible for teaching somatics and dance education modules for both the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) (Honours) degree and the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) (Dance) programme, as well as developing outreach projects and mentoring MFA (Dance) postgraduate students. A devoted educator and independent artist, she has also worked in different teaching settings including the Hong Kong Institute of Education, Hong Kong Ballet Education and Outreach Unit, City Contemporary Dance Company Dance Centre, the Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association Dance Group, Phillip Wain (Hong Kong), Body Lab Pilates Studio (Taiwan) and others. She co-founded Choreo 3 in 1998 in the US and has worked with companies including Dansomenia, Dance HK/NY and DanceArt and with numerous independent artists.

     Ivanhoe Lam received a diploma from the HKAPA before graduating from Rotterdam Dance Academy of Codart University (The Netherlands) with a BFA in Choreography. His dance works have been presented in Hong Kong, Rotterdam, the Hague, Utrecht and Amsterdam. Recent works include productions for the New Force in Motion Series of the LCSD. His "27 Scenes" was well received at the International Theater School Festival in Amsterdam and at the International Dance Symposium for Hong Kong Dance Festival 2010. He has also worked as choreographer and movement director on various productions including "Maze" by Passoverdance; "Sucks" by Lee Chun-chow, Kung Chi-shing, Ivanhoe Lam, Leung Ho-bong and Chester Wong; and "When Time Limps" by Rebecca Wong. He recently established Motion 27 Dance Theatre and is currently a freelance choreographer, performer, education artist and part-time lecturer at the HKAPA.

     The lectures hosted by Vanessa Cheung will be held at 8pm on September 22 and 29 (Monday) at the Cultural Activities Hall, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Lectures hosted by Ivanhoe Lam will be held at 8pm on October 6 and 13 (Monday) at the Cultural Activities Hall, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets priced at $50 (free seating) are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for full-time students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
