Grants approved for Mainland earthquake victims
***********************************************

The Government has accepted the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee and approved from the Disaster Relief Fund three grants totalling $13.286 million to three agencies for providing relief to earthquake victims in Yunnan Province on the Mainland.

Announcing the grants today (September 10), a government spokesman said that the Committee hoped the three grants dedicated for providing relief to the earthquake victims in Yunnan - one of $4 million to Save the Children Hong Kong, one of $3.676 million to the Salvation Army and one of $5.61 million to Oxfam Hong Kong - would facilitate the provision of timely relief to the victims and help them be restored to normal life. These grants, together with those approved earlier, will take the cumulative value of grants for earthquake victims in Yunnan to $22.673 million.

"To ensure that the money would be used for the designated purposes, the relief agencies would be asked to submit evaluation reports and audited accounts on the use of the grants after the relief projects have been completed," the spokesman said.
