HK Public Libraries launch "My Library" mobile app (with photos)
*********************************************************

The Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has further enhanced public library services for the mobile world with the launch of the official mobile app "My Library". The release of the app follows the revamp of the HKPL website (www.hkpl.gov.hk) early this year to give it a fresh new look. The app is available on both iOS and Android platforms for users to enjoy library services anytime and anywhere through their mobile phones or tablets.

The "My Library" app has functions including access to personal library accounts; searching, reserving and renewing of library materials; locating the nearest libraries using the global positioning system and offering addresses and contact information for all libraries; and personalised alert services, such as notifications for picking up reserved items and due dates of borrowed items.

The app supports the delivery of personalised alerts through the push notification services provided by the two mobile platforms. The alert messages can be sent to a mobile phone or device even when the app is closed, so readers no longer need to worry about forgetting the due dates of borrowed items. The HKPL also provides its latest news through the app.

The "My Library" app is developed and managed by the LCSD. It is the only official library mobile app and has enhanced security and protection of personal privacy for patrons accessing library services through a mobile network. Readers can now download the app from Google Play or the Apple App Store for free.
