Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) today (September 8) took part in a press conference and seminar at the 18th China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT) in Xiamen, Fujian Province. The investment promotion department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government encouraged Mainland enterprises to build their brands and access global markets through Hong Kong.

Entitled "Hong Kong - Your Platform to Go Global", the seminar was jointly organised by InvestHK; the Department of Outward Investment and Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China (PRC); the Trade Office of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government (CPGLO) in the HKSAR; and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong of the Government of the HKSAR. Supporting organisations included the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Xiamen Municipal People's Government; the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce; the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Xiamen Committee; and the Xiamen General Chamber of Commerce.

The seminar began with remarks from the Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Government of the HKSAR, Mr Godfrey Leung; the Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Department and Head of the Commerce Office of the CPGLO in the HKSAR, Mr Yang Yi; and the Deputy Director General of the Department of Outward Investment and Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, Mr Fang Wei.

In highlighting the business advantages of Hong Kong, Mr Leung said, "Hong Kong is known for having a business-friendly environment, free flows of capital and information, free trade and a free market economy, a deep pool of international talent, world-class infrastructure, and a sound and independent legal system, as well as a low and stable tax regime. Against this backdrop, it serves as an ideal testing ground for Mainland companies to 'go global'."

The Head of InvestHK's Guangdong Investment Promotion Unit, Ms Ada Yeung, also gave a presentation during the seminar, highlighting Hong Kong's business advantages and opportunities, and the various types of free services and assistance that InvestHK can offer to Mainland companies that intend to set up in Hong Kong and "go global". She said, "On the back of the country's policy of encouraging enterprises to go global, Hong Kong offers an international platform with a wide range of quality professional services in financing, law, accounting, insurance, brand marketing and so on, which highlight the strength of Hong Kong in assisting Mainland investors to expand their businesses overseas."

In today's seminar, Director, Tax, KPMG Advisory (China) Ltd, Ms Maria Mei; the Managing Director, Large Corporate, HSBC Commercial Banking, Mr Dick Wong; and the President of CCB Trust Fortune Investment Fund, Mr Wang Qi, each spoke about Hong Kong's taxation regime and how the city's financial services sector can help Mainland enterprises, particularly in mergers and acquisitions, and how Mainland companies can attract and manage private equity funds through Hong Kong.

2014 marks the 13th consecutive year that InvestHK has exhibited in the Hong Kong Pavilion at CIFIT. The exhibition showcases a wide spectrum of Hong Kong services and how the city can assist Mainland enterprises in expanding their overseas operations through its business and trade platform.
