Assault occasioning actual bodily harm case reclassified as manslaughter

     Police today (September 7) reclassified an assault occasioning actual bodily harm (AOABH) case in Yuen Long on September 3 as manslaughter.

     At about 6.06am that day (September 3), Police received a report that two men were fighting in an elderly home on On Lok Road in Yuen Long.

     Police officers attended scene and located the two men. The 78-year-old man and 48-year-old man, who sustained injuries on their head and face respectively, were sent to Pok Oi Hospital for treatment in conscious states.

     Initial investigation revealed that the two men disputed over trivial matters and assaulted each other. The 78-year-old man and the 48-year-old man were arrested for common assault and AOABH respectively, and were later released on police bail on the same day.

     The 78-year-old man was transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital for medical treatment on the same day. He was subsequently certified dead at 3.15am today. A post-mortem examination will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of death.

     Police today further arrested the 48-year-old man in Yuen Long in suspected connection with manslaughter. He is being detained for enquiries.

     Active investigations by the District Crime Squad of Yuen Long are under way.
