HK Central Library to host talk on energy crisis and demand side management
************************************************************

Televisions, refrigerators, street lamps and more all need energy for their daily use, but energy resources on the Earth are exhaustible. What will happen to the Earth and human beings when energy is overexploited? The Hong Kong Public Libraries of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold a talk entitled "The Future of Energy Crisis & Demand Side Management" at 3pm on October 5 (Sunday) at the Lecture Theatre of the Hong Kong Central Library to deepen the public's understanding of the energy crisis.

Energy plays a vital role in modern society, but the ways people use energy can bring about adverse impacts on the environment. Unless people take measures to effectively manage energy demand, overexploitation of resources can easily lead to an energy crisis.

Dr William Yu will give an overview of global energy demand and showcase some international examples of energy-saving measures, and will further discuss energy saving and energy efficiency in Hong Kong. The talk will be conducted in Cantonese with free admission on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dr Yu is the Chief Executive Officer of the World Green Organisation. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of the City University of Hong Kong, an Adjunct Associate Professor of the School of Management and Economics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Shenzhen and an Honorary Corporate Adjunct Professor of Shanghai University. He is also an Associate Member of the Business Advisory Council of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. He sits on the Energy Advisory Committee and the Subcommittee on Food Waste Reduction Good Practices in Institutions and Commercial and Industrial Establishments of the Food Wise Hong Kong Steering Committee under the Environment Bureau. He is a member of the working group of the Hong Kong-Malmö Sustainability Charter. For enquiries about the talk, please call 2921 0351.
