Recruitment for four civil service graduate grades starts today
**********************************************************

The Government started a recruitment exercise today (September 6) to recruit around 30, 120, 16 and six candidates for appointment on civil service terms as Administrative Officer (AO), Executive Officer II, Assistant Labour Officer II and Assistant Trade Officer II respectively in 2014-15.

The application period opens on September 6 and closes at 5pm on September 29 Hong Kong time. Recruitment advertisements have been placed in the South China Morning Post, Ming Pao and Sing Tao Daily today and will run again on September 13 and 20. The advertisements can also be found on the Civil Service Bureau (CSB) homepage at www.csb.gov.hk, as well as at the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government portal (GovHK) at www.gov.hk, from today.

For the recruitment of AOs, an advertisement has been placed in the overseas editions of Ming Pao and Sing Tao Daily today and will run again on September 20. Relevant information is available on a dedicated website at www.ao-recruitment.gov.hk.

The recruitment is open to all permanent residents of the HKSAR who meet the relevant entry requirements. Applicants may refer to the advertisements for details of the requirements.

All applicants need to obtain Level 2 in the two language papers (i.e. Use of Chinese and Use of English), or equivalent results, and a Pass in the Aptitude Test in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) before they qualify for any of the above posts. Persons who do not possess the requisite CRE results, or equivalent, but have applied for the coming CRE and Basic Law Test (Degree/Professional Grades) scheduled to be held on October 4 and 11 in Hong Kong or on December 6 in Beijing and six overseas cities (namely London, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Vancouver and Sydney) may also apply. Their applications will be processed subject to their obtaining the requisite results in the CRE. Applicants are also advised to refer to the advertisements for details regarding the requisite CRE results.

Eligible applicants possessing the requisite CRE results, or equivalent, will be arranged to attend the Joint Administrative Officer/Executive Officer/Labour Officer/Trade Officer Recruitment Examination (JRE) on December 6. Candidates residing or studying outside Hong Kong may take the JRE on the same date in Beijing or any one of the six overseas cities mentioned above. Candidates are required to pass the JRE.

For the purposes of heightening public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promoting a culture of learning about the BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge will be included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. As in prevailing practice, results of the BL test for degree/professional grades will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate's overall assessment. However, the result will not affect a candidate's eligibility for applying for any of the above posts. As a general principle, the main consideration for suitability for appointment remains a candidate's qualification, experience and calibre.

Application forms (CSB 606 and CSB 606A (Rev. 9/2014)) are available at the Public Enquiry Service Centres of District Offices of the Home Affairs Department, any Job Centre of the Employment Services Division of the Labour Department, or the G/F Reception of Trade and Industry Department Tower. They can also be downloaded from the CSB's homepage at www.csb.gov.hk.

Applicants can make online applications directly through the bureau's website. Each applicant should only submit one application, either by hand, by post or online. Duplicate applications will cause delay in processing and notifying applicants of their examination details.
