As suggested by the title, "A Heroic Woman of the Ming Dynasty" is set during the Ming Dynasty. Fei Zhen'e, a palace maid who serves in the imperial palace before the fall of the regime, is always asking Emperor Chongzhen's eunuch, Wang Cheng'en, about the political situation beyond the palace walls. Wang is curious about her intentions, and is impressed when he learns of her high aspirations. He tells the Emperor about her, who is intrigued and assigns her to be Princess Changping”¦s lady-in-waiting. When the successful rebel leader, Li Chuang, enters the capital, Fei disguises herself as Princess Changping and allows herself to be abducted by Li. Li then offers her as wife to his general Luo Hu, who led the foray into the capital. Fei feigns acceptance and kills Luo Hu on their nuptial night to take revenge for her emperor and her country.
