SEN to attend APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting in Beijing

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, will depart for Beijing at noon tomorrow (September 1) to attend the 11th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Ministerial Meeting (EMM).

     Mr Wong will attend the welcome reception and dinner hosted by APEC for delegates to the EMM upon arrival in Beijing.

     On Tuesday (September 2), Mr Wong will attend the APEC EMM, which will have "Joining Hands Towards Sustainable Energy Development in Asia-Pacific Region" as its main theme, and join discussions with ministers responsible for energy from the other 20 members of APEC on related issues including energy security, energy trade and investment, energy efficiency and sustainable community, as well as promotion of the use of cleaner sources of energy.

     In addition, Mr Wong will have bilateral meetings with the delegates from Singapore and the United States to exchange views on environmental protection issues.

     On Wednesday (September 3), Mr Wong will call on representatives of the National Energy Administration, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to discuss issues of mutual concern.

     Other officials attending the APEC EMM will include the Deputy Secretary for the Environment, Mr Vincent Liu, and the Assistant Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, Mr Harry Lai.

     Mr Wong will conclude his visit and depart for Hong Kong on Wednesday evening.
