Public Policy Research Funding Scheme invites research proposals
*******************************************************

The Central Policy Unit (CPU) today (August 29) announced that the Public Policy Research (PPR) Funding Scheme will include the subject of carbon trading as a new indicative research area. Eligible parties are invited to apply.

There are suggestions that the introduction of a carbon trading scheme and the establishment of an effective carbon trading platform can provide incentives for the reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases. To enhance Hong Kong and Mainland co-operation in tackling climate change, the CPU encourages academics and researchers to explore how carbon trading can be introduced into Hong Kong, taking into consideration the development of a cross-boundary carbon trading market mechanism with a view to reducing emissions of greenhouse gases. Research proposals from tertiary institutions and think tanks are welcome.

Details of the PPR Funding Scheme, including the eligibility criteria, the indicative research areas, the composition of the Assessment Panel and other information can be found on the CPU website (www.cpu.gov.hk). Applicants should complete the specified application form and submit it to the CPU, preferably by email (email: ppr@cpu.gov.hk).
