The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, in his capacity as the Vice-Chairperson of the Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Co-operation and Promotion Council, attended the Fourth Hong Kong-Taiwan Cultural Co-operation Forum in Taipei today (August 23). At the forum, Mr Tsang met with the Vice-Chairman of the Taiwan-Hong Kong Economic and Cultural Co-operation Council, Dr Lin Chu-chia.

At the opening ceremony of the forum, Mr Tsang said, "Taiwan and Hong Kong share the same origin of culture, yet they each have their own characteristics. I believe that the discussion of culture and creativity between the sectors of Taiwan and Hong Kong will continue to reflect this development from a shared origin into different streams. The discussion can allow for in-depth exploration and contemplation, and thus members of the sectors can be inspired and benefit from it."

In 2011, the first Hong Kong-Taiwan Cultural Co-operation Forum was jointly held by the Cultural Co-operation Committees of Hong Kong and Taiwan. The forum has been held annually since then and Hong Kong and Taiwan hold the forum in turn. The forum aims to foster interaction within the cultural sectors of Hong Kong and Taiwan and promote co-operation in culture, art and creative industries.

During his stay in Taipei, Mr Tsang has met and talked to the Hong Kong representatives joining a youth cultural and creativity camp. This year, the forum is for the first time holding a youth cultural and creativity camp and has invited young practitioners engaged in culture and creativity to take part. It provides the young people with opportunities to engage in cultural interaction and learning. In addition, Mr Tsang paid a visit to the Guoguang Opera Company to learn more about its daily operation, and he also visited other cultural facilities.

Mr Tsang will return to Hong Kong tomorrow morning (August 24).
