Final two weeks of "Studio Ghibli Layout Designs: Understanding the Secrets of Takahata and Miyazaki Animation" exhibition

     The "Studio Ghibli Layout Designs: Understanding the Secrets of Takahata and Miyazaki Animation" exhibition being staged at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum will close on August 31. Members of the public who have yet to see the exhibition's precious animation layout designs should grasp the opportunity to arrange a visit in the coming two weeks.

     "The exhibition has been well received by the public with about 360 000 people visiting since its opening on May 14 this year," a spokesperson for the Hong Kong Heritage Museum said today (August 15).

     The exhibition showcases some 1 300 original layout designs and animation clips from works including "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind", "Grave of the Fireflies", "Kiki's Delivery Service", "My Neighbor Totoro", "Howl's Moving Castle", "Spirited Away", "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea" and "The Wind Rises". Visitors can also have the privilege of viewing layouts from Isao Takahata's "The Tale of The Princess Kaguya", which is now being screened in Hong Kong.

     To coincide with the exhibition, the museum has organised a film screening and a performance of film music from Hayao Miyazaki's animations to be presented as special programmes at the Theatre on the first floor. Details are as follows:

August 21 (Thursday), 3.30pm
"Arrietty" (in Cantonese without subtitles)

August 24 (Sunday), 3pm to 4.30pm
"An Odyssey of Film Music from Hayao Miyazaki's Animations"
Performing group: Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band

     Free admission slips will be distributed from 10am on the special programme dates at the museum's ground floor. Please show your "Studio Ghibli Layout Designs" special exhibition admission ticket, "Studio Ghibli Layout Designs" and "The Extraordinary in the Ordinary: Chairs for Viewing the World through Time" Combined Ticket or valid Museum Pass to get a maximum of two admission slips for each person on a first-come, first-served basis. The programmes will have free seating.

     Exhibition booklets published by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and souvenirs produced by Studio Ghibli are also available for purchase at the museum gift shop during the exhibition period while stocks last.

     The exhibition is presented by the LCSD and organised by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum with the co-operation of Studio Ghibli and the Ghibli Museum, Mitaka. It is solely sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
