HKETONY Director welcomes Bruce Lee wax figure to Madame Tussauds New York (with photos)

     The Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, New York, Mr Steve Barclay, joined Madame Tussauds general manager at an unveiling ceremony for a Bruce Lee figure at the museum in Times Square, New York on August 13 (New York time).

     At the ceremony, Mr Barclay said, "Bruce Lee, born and educated in the US, had lived and grown up in Hong Kong. He transcended East and West, making him a cultural phenomenon.

     "Charismatic and enigmatic, he introduced Chinese kung fu to Hollywood. Merging philosophy into the world of martial arts, he fascinated thousands of movie fans and introduced Hong Kong films into the international film arena."

     He said the installation in New York tied in with a five-year long exhibition on Bruce LeeĦĤs life and career currently taking place in Hong Kong.  He called on visitors and Bruce Lee fans not to miss the exhibition when they go to Hong Kong.

     The General Manager of Madame Tussauds New York, Mr Bret Pidgeon, said he was pleased to have the legendary international star being featured for the first time in the New York wax museum. The life-size Bruce Lee figure is dressed in his instantly recognisable "Game of Death"  yellow jumpsuit. It will be displayed for the remainder of the summer before continuing with a roving tour to China.   

     The "Bruce Lee: Kung FuĦEArtĦELife" exhibition, which chronicles the life of the late movie star and martial artist at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, features more than 600 items, including clothing, pictures and gym equipment of the late kung fu star. It runs through July 2018.
