FEHD orders two restaurants in Quarry Bay and Sha Tin to suspend business for 14 days
*********************************************************

The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a restaurant in Quarry Bay and another in Sha Tin to suspend business for 14 days, as the operators repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation (FBR) by illegally extending the food business area.

"The two restaurants are 'Tung Yuen Kin Hong Congee and Noodles Restaurant', located at shop Z1 on the lower ground floor of East Point Centre at 1046-1056 King's Road in Quarry Bay, and 'Sichuan Chicken Restaurant', located at shop 21 on the ground floor of Block B of Chuen Fai Centre at 9-11 Kong Pui Street in Sha Tin. The restaurants were ordered to suspend business from today (August 13) to August 26," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said.

Two convictions for illegal extension of food business area were recorded each against "Tung Yuen Kin Hong Congee and Noodles Restaurant" and "Sichuan Chicken Restaurant" between May and June this year and between December last year and January this year respectively. Total fines of $5,300 and $200 were levied respectively and 30 demerit points were each registered against the licensees under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the 14-day business suspension for these two restaurants.

The licensees for "Tung Yuen Kin Hong Congee and Noodles Restaurant" and "Sichuan Chicken Restaurant" each had a record of two convictions for the same offence in April this year and between June and September last year respectively. Total fines of $3,000 and $200 were levied respectively and 30 demerit points each were registered. The breaches led to business suspensions of both restaurants for seven days in June this year and December last year respectively.

The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the FBR, or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.

Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign, at a conspicuous place near the main entrance, indicating that the premises have been licensed. A list of licensed food premises is available on the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
