Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 771 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 67 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (August 8).
  
     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 255 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.   
  
     A total of 597 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 174 for other traffic offences.   
  
     Five pedestrians and 110 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.   
  
     Statistics revealed that a total of 1,744 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to July this year, of which 543 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 43.8 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
