************************************************************

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management), Mr Ma Wai-luk, today (August 8) officiated at the Oath of Office Ceremony for new recruits at the Hong Kong Police College (HKPC) to mark the new milestone for police training programmes.

Upon completing the training programmes, the new recruits will be the first batch of police officers to be awarded professional diplomas by the Police College under the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (HKQF).

After undergoing the enhanced police training programmes, the Recruit Police Constables (RPC) and Probationary Inspectors (PI) will respectively receive Professional Diploma in Policing and Professional Diploma in Leadership and Management in Policing, which have been successfully accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) under the HKQF on June 26.

The former is recognised as meeting the accreditation standards at Level 4 (at the same level of an Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma of the academic sector) while the later meets the standards at Level 5 (at the same level of a Bachelor Degree of the academic sector).

Neither a tertiary institution nor a professional association, the HKPC is the first training organisation amongst all disciplined services and government departments to acquire the accreditation status to run professional training programmes under HKQF at Level 4 and Level 5.

Mr Ma noted that the major milestone reassured the Collegeˇ¦s high standard of professional training and reaffirmed it as a centre of excellence in police training and development.

As the training programmes, comprising policing knowledge, practical skills and positive values, are hard and intensive, Mr Ma called on the recruits to remain highly self-disciplined, diligent and determined to cope with the training and face the challenges and difficulties.

Highlighting the importance of Force vision and values, he hoped that they would discharge police duties with positive attitude, passion and integrity after passing out from the Police College.

Witnessed by the Deputy Secretary for Education, Mr Lo Sai-hung; the Vice Chairman of HKCAAVQ, Dr Chan Siu-kun; and the General Manager of Qualifications Framework Secretariat, Mr Patrick Pang; the recruits took the oath and undertook the responsibility to uphold law and order with a view to maintaining Hong Kong as one of the safest and most stable societies in the world.

The recruits comprised 207 RPC and 37 PI.

The Oath of Office is a solemn and legally bounded ceremony. Every police officer will, before taking up duties, take the oath before a gazetted police officer according to the Police Force Ordinance.
