Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain to launch "Music Delight" series (with photos)
************************************************************

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (UOGB) will visit Hong Kong for the first time and stage a concert in October. The concert will launch the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's "Music Delight" series.

The concert will be held at 8pm on October 5 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall. Eight "all-singing, all strumming" ukulele players will perform an array of songs, ranging from pop to rock and roll, jazz and movie themes. Members of the audience can also bring their ukuleles to jam with the orchestra on Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours".

The UOGB was founded in 1985. The performers have varied backgrounds but a complementary expertise, featuring strong individual voices and instrumental abilities. The orchestra has toured the UK, France, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Norway, the US, Australia, New Zealand, China and Japan. The UOGB can transform all genres of music into a lively, headlong stream of transcendent and feel-good sounds that elicit a joyous reaction from the audience.

Tickets priced at $150, $250 and $350 are now available at URBTIX. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20 per cent is offered for the "Music Delight" series and the group booking package.

To tie in with the concert, a free ukulele workshop (to be conducted in English by the members of the UOGB) will be held at 3.30pm on October 4 (Saturday) at Rehearsal Room GR3, 8/F, Backstage, Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. A limited quota is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are required to bring along their own ukuleles.

Other programmes in the "Music Delight" series include "Canadian Brass" (October 31) and "Igudesman and Joo: And Now Mozart" (November 8 and 9).
