Three nominations received for Islands District Council by-election

     Three nominations were received by the Returning Officer for the by-election in the Peng Chau and Hei Ling Chau Constituency of Islands District Council by the close of the nomination period today (August 7).

     The nominees' names, occupations, political affiliations and dates of nomination are as follows:

     A full list of the validly nominated candidates will be published in the Gazette after the Returning Officer has validated and confirmed the eligibility for candidature of the nominees.

     A poll will be held on September 7 (Sunday) should there be more than one validly nominated candidate in the constituency. The returned candidate will fill the vacant office of an elected member of Islands District Council.

     The Electoral Affairs Commission will hold a briefing for candidates and their agents at Islands District Council conference room, 14/F, Harbour Building, 38 Pier Road, Central, Hong Kong, at 6.30pm on August 11 (Monday).

     The Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Barnabas Fung Wah, will chair the briefing and introduce the guidelines on election-related activities. A representative from the Independent Commission Against Corruption will explain the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance. The Returning Officer and representatives from the Registration and Electoral Office, Hongkong Post and the Department of Justice will also be present.
