The spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital gave the following update today (August 6) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) carriers in a ventilator ward:
The hospital has stepped up the screening procedures and confirmed two more patients (one male and one female, aged 76 and 83) as carriers of MDRA today but without clinical symptoms. They are under medical surveillance and isolation with stable condition.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the ward. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
