Proprietor fined for violation of safety rules

Marriott Industries Limited was fined $110,000 at Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (August 5) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Guarding and Operation of Machinery) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred in Yuen Long on September 6 last year, in which a worker was trapped to death by the spiked cylinders of a fibre conveying machine while he was attending to it in a waste recycling factory.
