Number of applications and average waiting time for public rental housing
***********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Housing Authority:

The number of applications and the average waiting time (AWT) for public rental housing (PRH) of the latest quarter ending June 2014 are now available at the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) website.

Following this arrangement for publishing the figures for end-June 2014, from now on, the HA will upload the latest quarter-end figures of PRH applications and the AWT in about five weeks' time after the end of each quarter to the HA's website under the sub-page of "Publications and Statistics" (www.housingauthority.gov.hk/en/about-us/publications-and-statistics/prh-applications-average-waiting-time). Members of the public may refer to the relevant webpage for the relevant figures.

"The new arrangement will enhance the transparency of the figures of PRH applications and the AWT," a spokesmen for the HA said today (August 5).

The objective of the Government and the HA is to provide PRH to low-income families who cannot afford private rental accommodation, and the target is to maintain the AWT at around three years for general applicants (i.e. family and elderly one-person applicants). Waiting time refers to the time taken between registration for PRH and the first flat offer, excluding any frozen period during the application period (e.g. when the applicant has not yet fulfilled the residence requirement, when the applicant has requested to put his/her application on hold pending the arrival of family members for family reunion or when the applicant is imprisoned). The AWT for general applicants refers to the average of the waiting time of general applicants who were housed to PRH in the past 12 months.
