The spokesperson for Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) made the following update today (August 4) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Multi-drug Resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) carriers in a male Medicine and Geriatric ward:
A culture test of sputum was performed for a 73-year-old male patient earlier based on clinical need. The result confirmed that the patient as carrier of MDRA but without clinical symptoms on August 2. The patient had passed away on August 1 due to his underlying medical disease.
The hospital will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the ward. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
